We interrupt this acceptance speech with a message from Kanye West.
Note to Kanye West: It’s best to keep your opinion on teen country music star Taylor Swift beating Beyonce for MTVs Best Female Video award to yourself. Especially if you think voicing that opinion during the award show at the actual moment that Swift is accepting the award is a good idea.
Unfortunately Kanye thought doing so was a good idea. That VMA moment was seen by the millions of viewers watching the show live.
And in this Facebooking, Twittering, Googling world, said moment was rehashed, commented, embedded and shared by millions. Even MTV helped in the effort by providing an excerpt on its Web site.
The short of it, as giddy Taylor is giving her thank you speech – Kanye cuts in by grabbing the mike from her and saying Beyonce had the best video of all time. Cut to a shot of a very embarrassed Beyonce and then back to Kanye handing the mike back to a mortified Swift.
The chatter on Facebook went into overdrive. Some of the comments:
“Dude, Taylor Swift is a little teenager—that Kanye West thing felt like child abuse.”
“Kanye, has lost his mind. If anyone was going to speak up in protest against Beyonce losing, it should have been her husband. Not this deranged artist/fan. Does the word respect, even strike a bell with you, Mr. West?”
“I wish Kanye had tried that (with) Pink. She would have punched him in his damn face.”
The Tweeting was so heavy that it was hard to logon to Twitter. Once in, the VMAs, Taylor Swift and Kanye were predictably the top trending topics along with Lady Gaga. (“the bleeding” that’s another story).

Articles and blogs were instantly published about the incident.

Of course Kanye’s crazy acting ways at awards shows is nothing new. (Remember how he spoke his mind at the Grammys when he was passed over?) Certainly he has the right to his opinion and sometimes many agree with what he’s saying (recall how he lashed out on the Katrina telethon?) But sheesh, Kanye can you do a better job of choosing your battles?
